BioInnovate Sweetpotato Project

Quality Sweetpotato Seed System

SENAI won a grant for commercialising a quality sweetpotato seed system in Uganda under the “Integrating ICT in Commercial Production of Quality Sweetpotato Planting Material in East Africa (ICOPSEA)” initiative.

The consortium includes Makerere University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Mikocheni Agricultural Research Institute, Rwanda Agricultural Board, MIMEA International Kenya Ltd, and SENAI Farm Supplies Ltd.

Funded by BioInnovate Africa (supported by Sida and hosted at icipe, Nairobi), the project promotes the use of clean, high-quality sweetpotato planting material to enhance yields and food security in East Africa.

HarvestPlus MENU Sweetpotato Project

HarvestPlus MENU Sweetpotato Project

Nutrition & Food Security

The Meals for Nutrition Uganda (MENU) project is a five-year initiative aimed at reducing micronutrient malnutrition and improving vitamin A and iron intake for over 420,000 households in 25 districts of Uganda.

SENAI contributes by producing and distributing clean, virus-free orange-fleshed sweetpotato (OFSP) vines, strengthening vine multiplier certification, and building production capacity for private vine multipliers.

The project supports Uganda’s goal of enhancing food and nutrition security through biofortified sweetpotato production, funded under IFPRI Project No. 306003.006.001 (520-01-01).
